While the “right to die” may sound tempting, particularly when severe illness or suffering is part of the equation, the bottom line is that the terminally ill are not the only targets of those who claim that everyone should have the right to die. Terri Shiavo is a name and story known throughout the world. Young female simply collapses on a random day from oxygen deprivation to her brain. This young woman was granted the right to die. (ALL) People with terminal illness’s argument is that if they are in so much pain and have a set expiration date, then they should be granted the right to death. Let us ask ourselves, what about the others? People with terminal illness’s are not the only people that believe they have this right and wish to use it. Consider the blind man whom no person will care for, or the depressed office worker that never raises his voice to anyone. If allowed, this right could set forth a wave of controversy. People everywhere would want to use they’re right. Murderers excuses become easier to back, people would blame the government for what their loved ones did to themselves. Conclusively, if we allow this right to be made into law, then we shall be standing on an even more slippery slope than we already are today.

To deny someone the right to live is called murder. To deny someone the right to die is considered ethical in most cases, however, to a person who is terminally ill, abnegating the this right is not ethical. Take the case of Eluana Englaro, for example. She is a 37 year old Italian woman, who in 1992, at the age of 20 suffered a car accident and has been in a vegetative state ever since. Two years after the accident, doctors declared her condition irreversible. Her father recently won a court case in which he was allowed to have her feeding tubes stopped, so she would die. He stated that it was her wish. (NurseDi) What would a normal person do? Personally, I measure my life by self-assessed quality, not quantitatively. Making decisions for someone about someones life is what is trully un-ethical. 13-year-old Kirsty Jones, lived her whole life with a rare form of cancer. Treatment left her cancer free, however, her heart took a rough beating and could only pump 10% of her own blood. “I just decided that there was too many risks and even if I took it there might be a bad outcome afterwards”. (AEDT) If anyone can look a girl in the face and tell her that she does not have the right to die with a terminal illness that she has lived with her entire life is wrong. Some argue that life is a terminal illnes. I find this to be sad, this isnt an argument, but a pessimistic opinion. I truthfully would not chose to die with a terminal illness, I believe that this is God’s decision, however, I refuse to make the decision for someone else. I believe that there should be a process and guidlines that specify what a terminal illness is, if you pass this process, then you have the right to die with a terminal illness.

Claim: No one likes being told what to do, therefore, no person should be denied the fundamental right to die if they are terminally ill. Walk a mile in someone elses shoes. Would you want to live or die? Do you measure life by the time you spend on earth? Or the quality of a life in general?

Data: Human beings live life because its instinct, what else is there? When life gets to the point at which there is a limited amount of time left and there is no hope, then life, which is already limited, should not have to be prolonged.

Qualifier/Rebuttal: This should be limited to people with terminal illnesses, there can be no hope of living past the illness. I do not believe in suicide and there should be a big line drawn if a law were passed to give people this right. Some argue that life is a terminal illness, that we are all constantly getting closer to death. This is just someone wanting to object to death because of their own death complex, it makes no sense. Even if it did make sense, that should give the people that believe it more reason say yes to the right to die. I do not believe in suicide, which is what I consider this to be. So I will live life until God removes my soul from this vessel, however, I do not believe in trying to make this decision for someone else.

Life is a fundamental right, we protect it to the best of our ability. If some person is dying and in enough pain to want to die then they have the fundamental right to.

I enjoyed my time reading the what the writers of the L.A times had to say. Everyone knows that all websites that post gossip and news are going to be repetitious but the way the L.A. Times writes their articles brings it down to a level I like. I have not pin-pointed it yet but I will find the hidden quality that The Los Angeles Times possesses because it will stay near the top of my list on my reader page.

The New York Times is the name you hear in movies and in culture that usually references smarts and sophistication, and it does, but the same can be said for any of the three feeds that I am evaluating. I read only the articles that caught my eye on my reader page; California Is The First State To Burn Trans Fats…interesting but I did not finish the article, Microsoft Seeks an Ad Friend in Facebook….that does not concern me. One article that caught my attention was an article talking about how Jessica Harvey, an Olympic swimmer, tested positive for drugs, but that is about all that caught my eye. The New York Times is a big name in culture and in the minds of millions who seem to hold a high regard for the news distributor. I did not look forward to opening the page or reading anything it had to say. I eventually got mad and stopped reading it for about a week and picked it back up on my reader page to finish this assignment. I did not like The New York Times.
